Fresh Food Area Manager - Connaught Region

Permanent
Sligo, Galway
€45000 - €55000 per annum DOE

A huge opportunity has arisen in the Connaught region for a Fresh Food Area Manager who has a real passion for fresh food counters and staff management to operate between Donegal to Galway area. This is very interesting and exciting role to work in conjunction with the buying team as well as involves significant change management. The main objective is to coordinate the improvement and development of a new fresh counter offering within a defined region or customer base.

This is a great opportunity with vast scope for career progression. The successful candidate will be reporting directly to the Group Operations Manager and be able to demonstrate a real passion for the fresh food and will be able to provide evidence of previous supermarket or convenience store format experience in solving fresh food problems through using their own initiative and possess a real resilience in the face of difficulties.

You'll take pride in contributing to the retail stores which are exceptionally well presented, welcoming and engaging for the customers, team members and local community.

Main responsibilities:

  • Overall management of the fresh foods division (meat, meat alternatives, dairy and dairy alternatives, hot / cold deli, bakery, coffee, fruit & veg etc) from a corporate perspective, including product offerings, sales optimization, item movement, and promotions.
  • Ongoing success of Chilled / Frozen operation in the assigned area.
  • Provide professional advice to retailers in the region to help them understand the critical success factors in driving retail growth and profitability through the analysis of sales, margins, overheads, and retail standards vis-a- vis other retailers.
  • Monitoring and reporting to senior management on the performance versus objectives of all products in terms of volume, margin contribution and taking appropriate steps to achieve operational targets based on sound research and good business principles.
  • Provide all information and reports as requested from time to time by the senior management.
  • Liaise with other departments within the group.
  • Development and maintenance of strategic relationships with key suppliers to ensure we are carrying trending items and negotiating optimum pricing and terms for the business.
  • Managing staff, orders, deliveries, rotas and wastage.
  • Sourcing new, on trend fresh food in conjunction with the buying team.
  • Instilling an element of innovation into the role.
  • responsible for the performance and profitability of high volume and fast paced department.
  • Responsibility for people management skills in conjunction with creative merchandising and department presentation.
  • Focusing on leading ranges and customer buying patterns.
  • Liaising with managers on the shop floor to implement the changes.
  • To drive a one team culture which celebrates success and puts our team members health, safety and wellbeing first.
  • Undertaking ad hoc cross functional business projects as assigned.

Requirements:

  • A minimum of 5 years' experience in a role with strong exposure to fresh food.
  • Ideally third level business-related qualification desirable.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of organics industry and real passion for the fresh foods.
  • Considerable knowledge of all retail fresh food operations - food service offering, marketing & promotions, stock management, fresh Food legislation, staff training and HACCP.
  • Extensive experience in planning and building successful ranges in Fresh Food.
  • Excellent relationship management and networking skills
  • Provide direction and support to other store Department Managers.
  • Experience working as part of a team.
  • Experience in large format stores.
  • The ability to work independently and as part of the team.
  • Strong IT and report writing skills.
